Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)

Shiv Sena (UBT) is the faction of the original Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray after the 2022 split. The Election Commission allotted the original name and bow-and-arrow symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction.

History

The Shiv Sena was founded in 1966 as a 'sons of the soil' movement in Bombay. It ruled Maharashtra in alliance with the BJP for decades. In 2019 Uddhav Thackeray became Chief Minister of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (with NCP and Congress). In June 2022 Eknath Shinde led a rebellion, splitting the party.
