Corruption Watch India is an independent civic-technology initiative that documents corruption, scams and public-fund misuse across India. We operate outside government, political and corporate influence.
Our role is narrow and deliberate: receive reports from citizens, verify them against public records and independent sources, and publish the verified cases in a searchable database. We do not pursue investigations, name individuals without due process, or take legal action.
Every submission is encrypted in transit, stored with restricted access, and reviewed by trained moderators. Anonymous reports are the default; reporter identity is never published.
Our mission
To make information about corruption in Indian public life easier to find, harder to bury, and impossible to ignore. We believe an informed citizen is the strongest check on the abuse of public power.
What we do
- Document — maintain a structured, public-domain database of corruption cases, FIRs, chargesheets and court orders involving public officials.
- Verify — cross-check every submission against primary sources: court records, RTI replies, CAG/CVC reports, and credible news archives.
- Publish — present each case with citations, status, and links so readers can independently confirm what they read.
- Protect — safeguard reporters with end-to-end encryption, optional anonymity, and a strict no-logs policy on identifying metadata.
How we verify
- Intake. Reports are encrypted on the device before they reach us. Moderators triage within 72 hours.
- Source check. Each claim must be supported by at least one primary record (court filing, official notice, audit report) or two independent reputable news outlets.
- Right of reply. Where a named individual is the subject of a serious allegation not yet adjudicated, we record their public response, if any.
- Publish or reject. Cases that fail verification are rejected with a reason. Published cases carry status tags — under investigation, charged, convicted, acquitted, closed.
Editorial principles
- Non-partisan. We publish cases regardless of the party, ideology, region or religion of those involved.
- Evidence over opinion. No editorialising. The record speaks for itself.
- Presumption of innocence. An allegation is not a verdict. Status is always shown alongside the case.
- Corrections. Errors are corrected promptly and visibly, with a dated note on the case page.
What we are not
We are not a law-enforcement agency, a court, or a news outlet. We do not file complaints on anyone's behalf, accept paid takedowns, or run advertising. We do not accept funding from political parties, candidates, or entities with active cases on the platform.
Funding & governance
The platform is supported by small individual donations and time-bound grants from non-partisan civic foundations. A complete list of contributors above a disclosure threshold is published annually. Editorial decisions sit with an independent review group; funders have no role in what is published.
