Aam Aadmi Party
The Aam Aadmi Party emerged from the India Against Corruption movement of 2011 led by Anna Hazare. It positions itself as a citizen-first, anti-corruption alternative to the BJP and Congress.
Ideology
History
AAP won an unprecedented 67 of 70 seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 2015, repeated the feat in 2020, and won a majority in Punjab in 2022. The Election Commission of India recognised AAP as a national party in April 2023.
Political positions
Free electricity up to a threshold, free water, mohalla clinics, government-school reform, and a strong anti-corruption plank. The party has frequently clashed with the central government and the Lieutenant Governor over Delhi's governance.
