History
Founded by Mulayam Singh Yadav in 1992, the SP has governed UP three times, most recently under Akhilesh Yadav (2012–17). In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections it emerged as the third-largest party in Parliament.
Political positions
Social justice via OBC reservations, secularism, support for farmers, opposition to what it calls divisive politics, and welfare-oriented governance.
