Biju Janata Dal

The Biju Janata Dal was formed in 1997 in memory of Biju Patnaik. Under Naveen Patnaik it governed Odisha for 24 uninterrupted years (2000–2024) — the second longest CM tenure in Indian history.

Originally allied with the BJP, the BJD broke away in 2009 and won subsequent elections on its own. In 2024 the party lost both the assembly and parliamentary elections in Odisha to the BJP.
