Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati Fake Encounter Case

The Sohrabuddin Sheikh, Kausar Bi, and Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case is one of the most prominent criminal cases linked to Amit Shah. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation and filed a chargesheet in 2010, accusing Shah, who was then Gujarat's Minister of State for Home Affairs, of being the 'key conspirator' in the alleged extrajudicial killings. The CBI alleged that Sohrabuddin Sheikh, a suspected gangster, and his wife Kausar Bi were abducted and killed in November 2005, followed by the killing of Tulsiram Prajapati, an alleged associate and eyewitness, in December 2006. The prosecution's theory was that these killings were carried out by police officers at Shah's alleged behest, driven by motives of extortion and political interests. Shah was arrested by the CBI in July 2010, leading to his resignation from the state cabinet and a period of incarceration. The case was later transferred from Gujarat to Mumbai by the Supreme Court of India. In December 2014, a Special CBI Court in Mumbai discharged Amit Shah from the case, citing a lack of prosecutable evidence and finding that he had been implicated for 'political reasons.' The court observed that the evidence presented against him did not establish a prima facie case.
